Athens Stock Exchange - Derivatives BACK

Are the expiration dates of the derivative products predetermined?

Futures and Optionshave expiration dates:

  • Index Futures expire on the third Friday of every contract month. At their expiration there is only money clearing.
  • Stock Future expire every three months, the third Friday every March – June – September – December. At expiration there is a physical delivery T + 2 from the expiration date.
  • Index Options and Stock Options are monthly and expire on the third Friday of every contract month. These are “American type” products, which means that the buyer has the right to practice them at any time. Index Options have only money clearing and Stock Options have also a physical delivery T + 2 from the expiration date.

If the expiration of a product coincides with a stock market holiday, it is postponed to the preceding business date.

After certain procedures, the Stock Exchange has the right to postpone the expiration date of a product if there is a serious reason (squeeze out, suspension of trading, Public Proposals).
